Chills in studio for 'Christmas song people won't hate'

Chills

The Chills are together again in the studio for the first time in seven years, and promising to break new ground - by recording a Christmas song people won't hate.

The latest incarnation of the band, led by frontman Martin Phillipps, has been recording at the New Zealand Music Industry Centre studio in Dunedin this week.

Christmas Duet Secondary School Songwriting Competition 2010

Competition closed

Mike ChunnIn November this year, a CD of New Zealand’s most successful musicians and singers performing Christmas songs will be released to raise funds for the very worthy charity SHINE – Safer Homes In New Zealand Everyday.

Play It Strange (CEO Mike Chunn founding member of Split Enz) has been asked to complement those tracks with two original songs on the theme of Christmas written by NZ secondary school students.

To that end, we ran a competition to find TWO original Christmas Songs that are written for male/female duets by two young NZ songwriters.

Antonia Prebble

We sought:

  1. One song that was recorded as a duet with Antonia Prebble (Loretta on Outrageous Fortune); and
  2. One song that was recorded with two All Blacks singing backing vocals

'SMILE'  - by Massad Barakat-Devine in yr 12 at Sacred Heart College in Auckland
